A little about Deb
Born and raised in Narrabri, NSW, Deb Michell-Smith is an emerging Australian artist celebrated for her vibrant acrylic paintings that capture the beauty and stories of regional landscapes and communities. She holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts from the University of Southern Queensland and lives on a farm in North West NSW, where her creative journey is deeply embedded in everyday life.
This year Deb held a solo exhibition at Weswal Gallery in Tamworth and. group exhibition with Greta Hounslow and Matthew Watts at The Corner Store Gallery in Orange. Deb has also been a finalist in the John Villiers Outback Art Prize and Tattersalls Club Landscape Art prize.
In 2025, Deb continued to build national recognition for her work, being named a finalist in the Prospect Portrait Prize, PRO Hart Outback Art Prize, 9 x 5 Landscape Art Prize, John Villiers Outback Art Prize, The Interior Art Prize and The Doyles Art Award. She was also a finalist and awarded the People’s Choice Award at the BAM Moree Biennale Portrait Prize and highly-commended at Inverell Art Prize.
Deb has an up coming upstairs gallery exhibition at Michael Reid Southern Highlands in July/August 2026.
Her paintings are represented in the stockroom of Satch & Co. Gallery Holbrook, Corner Store Gallery, Orange and Weswal Gallery Tamworth.
