A little about Deb

Born and raised in Narrabri, NSW, Deb Michell-Smith is an emerging Australian artist celebrated for her vibrant acrylic paintings that capture the beauty and stories of regional landscapes and communities. She holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts from the University of Southern Queensland and lives on a farm in North West NSW, where her creative journey is deeply embedded in everyday life.

This year Deb held a solo exhibition at Weswal Gallery in Tamworth and. group exhibition with Greta Hounslow and Matthew Watts at The Corner Store Gallery in Orange. Deb has also been a finalist in the Pro Hart Outback Art Prize, John Villiers Outback Art Prize and Tattersalls Club Landscape Art prize.
In 2025, Deb continued to build national recognition for her work, being named a finalist in the Prospect Portrait Prize, PRO Hart Outback Art Prize, 9 x 5 Landscape Art Prize, John Villiers Outback Art Prize, The Interior Art Prize and The Doyles Art Award. She was also a finalist and awarded the People’s Choice Award at the BAM Moree Biennale Portrait Prize and highly-commended at Inverell Art Prize.

Deb has an up coming upstairs gallery exhibition at Michael Reid Southern Highlands in 2026.
Her paintings are represented in the stockroom of Satch & Co. Gallery Holbrook, Corner Store Gallery, Orange and Weswal Gallery Tamworth.
